F-16 fighter plane crashes in US

An F-16 military plane crashed near Holloman Air Force Base in New Mexico just before noon local time on Tuesday, a US official confirmed to Fox News.

The pilot of the jet was the only occupant on the plane and was able to safely eject before it crashed.

The pilot was transported to a local hospital where he was determined to be in good condition and later released.

The F-16 Fighting Falcon crashed about five miles west of the aforementioned base near White Sands National Park at approximately 11:50 a.m. local time.

Local authorities urged people not to approach the accident site as harmful chemicals in the fighter jet may have been released into the atmosphere.

Although White Sands National Park is open to the public, some areas are closed due to the emergency response.

Information about the cause of the crash is not yet known.

This is the third American F-16 crash in the past six months.
