I had no influence on Finidi’s appointment to the Super Eagles, Pinnick

Former President of the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF), Amaju Pinnick, has claimed that he had no hand in the appointment of Finidi George as the head coach of the Super Eagles.

Pinnick recently named Finidi as his preferred candidate, leading many to believe that he influenced the NFF’s choice for the Super Eagles head coach position.

Former winger Finidi eventually secured the position ahead of his biggest challenger, Emmanuel Amuneke.

Pinnick, currently a member of the FIFA council, said that while he has a good relationship with NFF president Ibrahim Gusau, he has not imposed any coach on his successor.

“The President (Ibrahim Gusau) is very capable and always works around the clock,” Pinnick told Lagos Talks FM.

“What I have noticed is that Nigerians do not like to see peace in Nigerian football, they do not like synergy.

“If I have a good synergy with my successor, I don’t think there is any reason to say that I am the one who chose Finidi George.

“Why should I be? Gusau was an important member of (Aminu) Maigari’s regime. Then in my own regime he was very cardinal.

“He understands the dynamics, the theater, the politics, the game. And he is an accountant, very careful, so people should not just say things.”
