Cardi B’s short bangs make her look like a retro pin-up model

She’s done ’80s-inspired mullets, Y2K-esque poufs, and sleek ’90s styles, but it turns out Cardi B can channel any era and make it look incredibly convincing. When the “Enough (Miami)” star stepped out for the final game of the NBA’s Eastern Conference playoffs, her romantic reunion with her estranged husband Offset wasn’t the only thing making headlines. There, at the event on April 30, Cardi B’s short bangs gave her entire look the coolest retro feel, further cementing her position as one of the decade’s leading beauty stars.

Cardi gave her fans and followers a sneak peek of the look on her Instagram Stories, where she briefly shared the styling process before heading to Madison Square Garden in New York City with Offset. Due to the extreme length and striking cut, her hair is likely a temporary piece or wig, but the bangs suit her incredibly well. She said the front pieces were pressed down with a pair of flat paddle clips, which prevent unwanted gouges and bumps. The hair is cut long and evenly – making it look particularly fresh – with blunt bangs that stop just short of her subtly arched eyebrows.

The striking fringe length immediately reminded many viewers of the close-cropped cuts often worn by pin-up models of the ’50s, such as the legendary Bettie Page and her famous bangs. Although Cardi’s pair is not that short, the rounded character and visible eyebrows are very much in line with the retro trend.

Interestingly enough, despite their extreme appearance, shorter bangs have become an increasingly popular hairstyle among the celebrities. Some, like Olivia Rodrigo, Zendaya and Kylie Jenner, opt for a punkier, choppier look. Still other A-listers, including Zoë Kravitz and Beyoncé, channel and have a more distinctly vintage vibe with their eyebrow-baring bangs.

Always a fan of bold hairstyles and creative fashion choices, it was only a matter of time before Cardi B explored the micro-bang trend herself. And it looks so good, we hope she lasts longer than just the NBA Finals.
