Youngstown State WR CJ Charleston commits to Michigan

The Michigan Wolverines extended an offer to Youngstown State wide receiver CJ Charleston earlier this week, an offer that Charleston accepted on Wednesday.

Charleston announced its commitment to Michigan on social media.

The 2024 campaign will be Charleston’s fifth in college football and his most productive season yet comes in 2023, where he had 33 receptions for 503 yards and four touchdowns.

Offensive coordinator Kirk Campbell recently explained that adding depth at receiver is a priority for Michigan. Michigan has lost several receivers to the transfer portal, including transfers Darrius Clemons, Karmello English, Cristian Dixon and Eamonn Dennis.

“We just don’t even have numbers. If you look at the depth of the squad, you need enough guys. Hamstring injuries are going to happen, quad injuries,” Campbell said. “We just have to make sure we have enough men to make the selection.”

It remains to be seen what role Charleston will play at Michigan, but his presence is a much-needed and welcome addition to the receiving room.
