VICTORIA – BC’s Auditor General has announced an investigation into ongoing efforts to rebuild the community of Lytton.

In a video posted to YouTube on Wednesday (May 1), Auditor General Michael Pickup says his investigation will focus on the government’s role in the days since a wildfire destroyed the village in June 2021.

“Our research focuses on three areas – the Province of BC’s role and responsibility in disaster recovery, the Province of BC’s support for Lytton – including the funding it has contributed – and the challenges we face in rebuilding of Lytton and the opportunities for improvement of the province of BC. Pickup said.

Fraser-Nicola MLA Jackie Tegart has called for the inquiry and even put it forward for a vote in July 2023, which was defeated in the B.C. legislature.
