Novi driver involved in traffic crash in Plymouth Township on I-275

PLYMOUTH TWP. – A Flint man faces charges after an apparent road rage incident along southbound Interstate 275 early Wednesday morning.

A 51-year-old Novi man initially told police he was shot while driving south on I-275 between Seven Mile and Five Mile roads around 6:40 a.m. on May 1.

The Novi driver had told police he saw a muzzle flash, but the 31-year-old man told Michigan State Police troopers he had merely thrown a bottle at the Novi man’s vehicle.

The Flint man also told police he had a firearm, but that he had a CPL.

“Further investigation revealed that no shooting occurred during the incident,” the MSP said in an online post. “The weapon did not fire, all bullets were recorded and no evidence was found during the disposal of the shell casings.”

The investigation report will be submitted to the public prosecutor, the MSP said.

“There is no reason to allow a driving error to endanger other drivers,” MSP Lt. Mike Shaw said in the post. “If you see an incident like this, do not engage with the drivers and call 911.”
