SAMBA, May 5: Chandan Football Club defeated RS Bhadwal Football Club Kathua 2-0 to win the Football Championship at Ramlila Ground Thaloura Mandi in Samba District today.
The football competition was organized by the local youth in Thalora Mandi for children under 15 years. DSP Headquarters Samba Bhisham Dubey inaugurated the championship along with SHO Samba Sandeep Charak in the presence of many other dignitaries.
A total of eight teams from Samba, Kathua and Jammu districts participated in the competition, each team consisting of nine players. Matches were held between all the teams and with better performance, 2 of the 8 teams Chandan Football Club and RS Bhadwal Club Kathua emerged to face each other in the final.
In the final match, Chandan Football Club players maintained their dominance over the opposing team and in the first half; Aniket Sambyal gave the team the lead by scoring a goal. Also in the second half, Shubham Kumar of Chandan Football Club scored another goal to give the team a 2-0 lead, helping Chandan Club to clinch the final trophy.
BJP leader and former minister Surjit Singh Slathia honored the winner and runners-up by presenting them with awards. Slathia encouraged the local youth for organizing the tournament. He said that these children will showcase their game on the big field and bring glory to the area along with their parents.
Many youth including former Sarpanch Varinder Singh Lucky, Subhash Singh, Gautam Singh, Vikas Sambyal, Rajeshwar Singh Bikka, Shiv Lal Manyal, Aman Sambyal, Anant Sambyal and Bhavik Sambyal were also present on this occasion.
