Hit by allegations of sexual abuse, HD Revanna tries to find remedy in rituals

Holenarasipura (Karnataka): Smoke billowed as ‘Havan’ flames (fire rituals) raged in the scorching summer at the residence of JD(S) MLA and former Karnataka minister HD Revanna here on Wednesday.

What was striking was a piece of paper taped to the wall of his house.

Speaking to reporters in Bengaluru before leaving for Holenarasipura, Revanna said the SIT has pasted a notice on his house.

He noted that he has no idea of the contents of the notice and said he will cooperate with authorities.

“I have the strength to face these conspiracies. I will face it (investigation). There is no need to worry. I have not done anything wrong. I am prepared for any investigation and will face it in a fight legally,” Revanna said. .

He rejected all accusations and said, “I won’t talk about it now.” Meanwhile, the SIT has formed three teams to investigate the case.

Revanna, the Holenarasipura JD(S) MLA, is the son of former Prime Minister and JD(S) patriarch HD Deve Gowda and elder brother of former Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy.

Prajwal is seeking re-election from Hassan from the JD(S), an alliance partner of the BJP in Karnataka.

Just before the elections, a huge collection of explicit videos and photos, allegedly of him, went viral on social media, following which the Karnataka government formed the SIT at the request of Karnataka State Commission for Women chairperson Nagalakshmi Chowdhary .

A case has been registered against Revanna and Prajwal in Holenarasipura following a complaint by their former cook and relative alleging sexual harassment against her. She alleged that Prajwal made video calls to her daughter and spoke in an offensive manner, forcing her to block him.

Since morning, priests were busy performing rituals at Revanna’s residence in Hassan district to “ward off the adversity” that has hit their family.

Revanna’s faith in gods, goddesses, rituals and astrology is well known.

Once, the JD(S) MLA was seen holding lemons on stage at a public event. When asked about it, he said that lemon has the quality to ward off any kind of spell on a person.

Sometimes he was also seen barefoot as part of a vow to fulfill his wishes.

When he was Public Works Minister in the Congress-JD(S) coalition government led by his brother Kumaraswamy, he traveled 350 km to and from Holenarasipura after an astrologer advised him not to stay at his own home in Bengaluru. because it would bring him bad luck, said a source close to Revanna.

A broad ‘Tilak’ on his forehead, a garland of Rudraksh rosary around his neck and rings on his fingers studded with precious stones cannot be missed.
