Foothill softball and U-Prep baseball earn top honors

One softball and baseball player will be recognized for his outstanding performance on the field.

This week, a student-athlete from Foothill and U-Prep is highlighted. It’s time to meet the two Shasta Family YMCA Athletes of the Week for their achievements over the past few weeks.

Sport: Softball

School: Spur

Class: Junior

Last week’s YMCA Athletes of the Week: Do you know these two Shasta Family YMCA athletes of the week?

Team contributions: Foothill is in second place in Eastern Athletic (17-4, 5-1) with just four regular season games remaining. Wiegand has helped the Cougars with 25 hits, 25 RBIs, 17 runs, seven home runs, six doubles and one triple this season. The pitcher also struckout 74 batters in 55 2/3 innings. Foothill will take on Enterprise Tuesday, followed by Pleasant Valley on Wednesday at 4 p.m.

Kaos Martin

Sport: Basketball

School: U preparation

Class: Junior

Team contributions: Despite a rough start, U-Prep is in third place (8-18, 5-4) in the Northern League. Martin has helped the team along by recording 15 hits, 12 RBIs and has the highest batting average and fielding percentage. The Panthers have two regular season games remaining, the first against Red Bluff Wednesday at 6 p.m. and followed by Lassen at 7 p.m. Thursday.
