This high school’s battle against cell phones yielded surprising results

MANCHESTER, Conn. – When Raymond Dolphin became assistant principal at a high school in Connecticut two years ago, it was clear to him that all was not well with the children.

The problem was cell phones. Students used the devices in class, despite a rule prohibiting this. Social media exacerbated almost every conflict between students. When Dolphin walked through the hallways or inspected the cafeteria, he invariably saw heads bent over screens.
