ALPENA – Northeast Michigan townships have forwarded candidate names to county clerks and there will be few competitive races in the August primary.

The primaries pit candidates from the same political party against each other, while the winners face each other in the November general election.

A person who is running for office can also run for office unopposed if no one from either party wants to oppose him.

The Presque Isle County candidate list did not list the candidate’s political party, but there may be one race that could be contested if both candidates share the same political party.

In Presque Isle Township, Cynthia Paavola and Kathleen Szydlowski have filed for clerk position. The News is unsure if they will face each other in August or November.
